Hi
I created an envelope warp of some text, then expanded it and made it a compound path. When I try to apply a freeform gradient I am only given one point and however much I click around, I am unable to add another. Is this a recognised problem?

Freeform gradients don't work in this kind of compound paths. They will work in Compond paths that have a hole in them, but they don't work in this kind of configuration. You will have to either make single paths/compound paths or make a rectangle with the freeform gradient and then apply the text as a mask.

Like Monika said, use a mask.
Make sure to use a Clipping Mask and avoid Opacity Mask from the Transparency panel (which does not work with Freeform Gradients)
