Fun in 29.7.1: "The document "" is currently getting saved. Try again after the process is complete"

Since updating Illustrator to 29.7.1, I've run upon several issues that are affecting productivity, but the two that are the biggest losers are the randomly-appearing-on-save "The document "" is currently getting saved. Try again after the process is complete" issue and the Preferences > Keyboard Increment change.

nosavenohappy.png

This random save issue is probably the Gold Medal Winner winner of the Frustration Olympics from my angle as when it pops up, the only way I can get around it is to set Paste Remembers Layers, copy all the elements I'm working with to a new document, check that all colors, layters, etc are correct, save it as a new working file, close/reopen the app then delete the original file so I don't get it mixed up with the new one. This is, as they say, no bueno por caca. Oh, and not to mention the poor grammar of "getting saved."

Runnerup is a lil guy who doesn't seem like much of a contender, but he packs a punch... After years of the preferences window defaulting to Preferences > Keyboard Increment being active upon opening (thus my being used to hitting Ctrl+K, entering a value for the keyboard increment and tapping <return> without really looking,) in 29.7.1, it now defaults to the Search Parameters field being active. So now it's Ctrl+K, 4x tab, enter value and hit return 2x. I realize this is not a dealbreaker but more of a "dammit, Adobe, don't fix it if it ain't broke" annoyance.

This update is also chock full of surprises like weird redraw issues, commands not completing or even recognizing being called and other oddball save issues that I've only seen randomly a couple of times, therefore not documentable (yet). Anyone else?

Hello everyone,

Our product team has tried fixing this with the latest Illustrator (beta) release. Would you mind installing Illustrator (beta) and letting us know if it helps?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Anubhav

Hello,

I have been experiencing a nightmarish situation where Illustrator freezes any time I try to save a project/file. I have four images and maybe 8 lines in a project. Total file size is maybe 15 GB. I hit save last night an hour before bed, and when I woke up this morning, 9 hours after hitting save, it was still trying to save the file, with 0% progress. I have all the files on a TB NVMe drive. I am running Illustrator 2025 (v29.8) on Windows 11. My computer specs are Threadripper 3970X 32 core processor, 256GB DDR4 RAM, and AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT.

Thanks

Does it work when you turn off "Save in backround"?

I'm unsure how to do that. I'm certainly not a computer expert, or an Illustrator expert for that matter. I only use the program to arrange figures for research papers I'm working on. My knowledge extent is literally just putting photos into Illustrator, and drawing the occasional line, curve, or arrow with some random text. hahaha  However, for the past 10 years of using the program, this has never been a issue, and it only started a week or so ago.

Hi MADPResearch,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble. In addition to what our expert has asked, and as noted in the Uservoice shared above.

"The team expects this to be fixed with the latest Beta build. Please try to install it and let us know if it solves the problem."

Thanks,

Harshika

Hello Harshika,

I did not download the Beta, I had to force close Illustrator a few times, and all of a sudden it just began working again on its own for some reason. I didn't change anything, but it seems like it is OK for now. Fingers crossed.

Thanks!

Additionally, when I save a copy with "PDF compatibility" off, none of the embedded images work when I reopen the project.

Thanks
