Gaussian Blur pop up stuck when opening files

Hello All,

When I try to open a saved Ai file, I get two popup boxes. The first says the color profile doesn't match...that's fine, but on TOP of that box, I get a Progress box for Gaussian Blur. It gets stuck here and does nothing after that. I have to end the program because I can't do anything with it there. (I don't even think the file uses a Gaussian Blur).

 

This happens with every file I've tried to open today. Please help!

    Thank you John and Mike, I reset the preferences and then restarted my computer and it worked. Not sure why it just started doing that, but so far so good. Thank you for your help!!

        Hi Emily,

        Let's try and rule out a few areas this could be attributed to. What version of Illustrator were these created in. Older files had a legacy gaussian blur that used to make Illustrator very slow, until you updated them manually.

         

        If you create a new simple file just draw a rectangle and save & close, does that open fine or do you get the error?

         

        Restart your computer.
