Why has Adobe not seen it fit to include a QR code generator in Illustrator? Currently, getting QR code "images" into Illustrator is a pain in the a##. Adobe please wake up.
On the mac there is a small app available which you just run, paste in your url and it opens a vector QR code in Illustrator (CC too), ready for anything.

Sorry, but i think if its possible to generate a QR in InDesign – in line – why i should usa a online service, download and implement a exernal file – this is so much 2010!

It would be more convenient if Adobe Illustrator had a built-in QR Code generator, or better yet something that could generate QR codes and a variety of bar codes. One of Illustrator's rivals has built-in capability to create QR codes and bar codes (in vector format). But it's a feature I rarely use at all.
It's worth noting there is some push-back about QR Codes. The codes themselves aren't bad. But there have been incidents where publicly displayed QR codes have been covered with codes pointing users to other web sites. This is yet another thing where people have to be street smart about technology.

The Adobe Express one will not generate with custom colors. Best to just open InDesign and use the well-built QR code generator there. This will allow you to export an EPS to use in Illustrator. Why this isn't in Illustrator is a mystery to me.

I fully agree !
Currently, for me, the steps are the following:
1. create the link in a UTM generator
2. open InDesign
3. create a new doc
4. paste the link in the QR code generator
5. copy the QR code
6. paste it in Illustator
7. group it
8. merge the QR Code eyes
9. remove the unnecessary anchor points
10. make round corners to the eyes
11. select all QR code items except the eyes
12. give them round corners
13. draw an ellipsis in the center
14. put a logo in the center
This takes AGES and I have to do it nearly once a day !!! If I could at least avoid the InDesign part, that would be GREAT help.
