Hi all,

I am working on a serializing solution for my scripts and I would like to rely on the user Illustrator Serial Number for identification. My probleme is that I can't see how to grab this info by scripting. I saw that the UI allows access to the info in the system info menuAction of the help menu but I can't get access to that.

In InDesign there is a app.serialNumber command but unfortunately no similar stuff within Illustrator...

Do you have a hint on how to retrieve this information ?

TIA,

Loic

If you are wanting a per machine solution you should may be look at the mac address or better the uuid… This can be done AppleScript on the mac… There are no direct methods for this with the ESTK you would most likely have to find and parse that data yourself…

A site licence is usually one key for all…

TMK there is no direct script access to this in AI… but in my case the 'Serial Number' is suite wide so ID's would do… Wouldn't this also be site wide dependent on installers?

Hi Mark,

Thanks a lot for your answer. Yeah, it doesn't feel good. My intention was to grab the serial number to do some comparisons. Do site wide licences consists in one serial for several machines ? I have no ideas.

Anyway, it doesn't look like teh way to go. Some users may only have Illustrator. I was thinking also to look after some files containing the licence info on the system (Library/somewhere...) but I dig into all adobe folders but found no files with valuable informations. I have to think about another approach

Thanks again

Loic
