Gradient Tool not working in AI CC?

Hi ,

I'm seeing online in videos and tutorials a different behaviour for the Gradient tool than my AI CC is exhibiting.

If I make  a simple rectangle I van use the tool to click and drag a gradient for it but that gradient editing bar that stays on screen in the tutorials just vanishes as soon as I release the mouse.

Same happens with a graphics pen.

I'm sure it's something I'm not doing or understanding.

Any ideas?

    nvm- my cat walked across the keyboard and switched off the "Gradient Annotator".

    Anyone else searches and finds this: you go View > Show Gradient Annotator

      The gradient annotator can be very tricky to see, and a number of conditions need to exist. You must:

      1. be in the gradient tool
      2. have the gradient selected, and in focus. That include selecting this in the appearance panel if you have multiple gradients.
      3. and as you mentioned have the view >> show gradient annotator
