Is there a way where I can curve the gradient instead of it going straight across? I have an arrow pointing towards the problem in my second photo. I'm trying to get it to look like the first photo.

Chris,

As I (mis)understand it, you can change the path to stroke/no fill, then move a copy down to where the transition is to end (and modify the shape if desired) and change the stroke colour to what you have at the bottom of the gradient, then create a smooth blend from the two paths.
