I would first check your Color Settings to make sure they match what you had in CS5, as well as what Profile is assigned to your image.

What I mean is your Color Settings in your Adobe apps.. e.g. In Illustrator, they are under the Edit menu > Color settings.

Make sure what was set in CS5 is the same in your CC2023.

Also, If you open the cycle image in Photoshop, what profile if any is assigned to it (see bottom left corner of the document frame...

In your screen grab, both appear the same to me. Where are you seeing the greyed background? If you've made a PDF, does it show greyish there?

Your document title bar shows you are a CMYK document. If you've placed an RGB-based object into a CMYK document, these settings will convert from one space to another. This could introduce a difference if your profiles aren't the same, but there's many factors to consider.

Anyway, let's start with your Color Settings.
