Guides are turned off in the guides command

Hi

I have 'make', 'release' & 'clear' guides turned off in the menu View> Guides > .
I can create guides after showing the ruler of course but I am still interested why they are turned off in the main menu bar.
Any clues anyone?

Have a screenshot but this message image upload utility does not function. something about image type will not upload.

In order to have Make Guides available you must have a path selected from which to make a guide. In order to have Release Guides and Clear Guides active you must have at least one guide.
