When I make a rectangle and then select the Direct Selection Tool, the handles disappear. Why?

Thanks but actually the bounding box with handles is supposed to show with
Direct Selection tool. I just now saw what I overlooked. I somehow had Show
Edges (under View) turned off. Now that I turned that on again, the
bounding box and handles have appeared like usual.

What handles do you mean?

If you mean the handles of the bounding box that let you resize the rectangle with the Selection tool, then that's just normal behaviour since the bounding box is only active with the Selection tool, but not with the Direct Selection tool. You can temporarily toggle them by pressing the Cmd / Ctrl key.

If you mean something different, you'd have to clarify a bit.

Well, if Show Edges was turned off, turning them on does not show the bounding box when selecting paths with the Direct Selection tool. It shows edges, anchor points and direction handles.

Guess that's what you actually meant, but it's not the bounding box.
