How do create or use handwriting fonts in Illustrator?

Draw them individually or buy and use a handwriting font.

Or do you want to do something completely different?

Or create the shapes of the individual characters with the help of Illy, then use a font editor to turn it into a font.

It's pretty evident you're not a typographer, so don't worry about making fonts, just go grab some handwritten fonts. Install them and use them in Illustrator.

Mathias17 -- this is very helpful - I have happy to use whatever is available.

I am really looking for cursive fonts that have a professional look to it.

Once I find one - how do I "install" it?

No problem.

Just download the chosen font(s) and right-click it. On both Mac and PC there will be an install option. Either do this, or manually copy/drag the font file(s) into your font folder - PC: Control Panel > Fonts, Mac: Font Book.

Restart Illustrator if it was open during that process. Type something out and search for the respective font name in the font list.

Just a few comments.

Especially when downloading free fonts, you should be aware thet Illy is more particular than most, and will refuse to work with a font that is not up to her standard. Some fonts are not,but may still be used in other less requiring contexts.

You may look for the font in the Character File dropdown list at any time, regardless of current tool/operation/whatever.
