HELP - CUT LINE WITHIN SHAPE ISSUE - Illustrator 2023

Hello!

I'm trying to design an earring holder svg (see photo). It is made up of 2 arch tabs that are single line die cuts inside the card. I can get the 2 small circles to be compounded with the main card no issues but when I try to compound the arches with the rest, it makes a "4 sided" die cut shape. I am only wanting a "3 sided" die cut line and for it only to be a single line.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You would have to outline those strokes.

But also: what Jacob wrote. Are you cutting them on your own plotter?

Unfortunately, they cannot be outlined as this forms 2 lines close together and will leave tiny bits of paper fallout. In turn this creates a negative experience for the user cutting out the design and the cutting machine companies do not accept files like this 😔

In that case maybe ask those companies exactly how they want them delivered?

Ross,

Your "4 sided" die cut shape only has the stroke on the 3 sides.

Why compound at all?

Presumably, the cutter will just cut the small circles in full and the 3 sides of the arches, and the the outer shape, which must be done last of course.

To work properly in a cutting machine (and for files to be accepted), they need to be compounded altogether and seamless for the user. I could leave them as they are however they will not be accepted and cannot be just grouped.

I have made a box many years ago with a tab to open the lid, however I cannot remember how it was done.
