Help Deciding Ai vs. Ps

I would like to design tshirts for myself and friends and was trying to figure out if Photoshop or Illustrator would be the best option. Most tshirts would be based on a photo image (let's say an elephant) reduced to a single color or an outline with a word or two. Mostly I want to be able to change color, adjust size, and add or subtract elements from the original image. Thank you for your help.

If we're talking photographic images, I believe the better solution would probably be to use Photoshop. It has excellent image manipulation tools and perfectly adequate type capabilities. It has great process color separation capabilities and good spot color capabilities.

Are you going to be making your own screens for screen printing? Or doing iron-ons? Or will you be using a T-shirt shop to turn your art into imprinted T-shirts? Depending on the way you want to go, that may also have an impact on your final choice.

Thanks, Randy. I will be sending the images to be printed by an online tshirt printing shop.

Then I'd give them a call and ask what makes it easy on them. They'll steer you right if you let 'em know they'll hear no end of it if things go wrong.
