HELP Explaining how an effect was created

Hi,

I have a vector image that I got from shutterstock. There is a marble effect used. I want to know how it was made. If anyone can explain, I would be ever so grateful .

I have linked the image here (with everything else not required removed) In the top image you can see the marble effect over a plain yellow colour. Below is what you see on the marble shape when I double click on it. (In group mode). Its this group mode I know little about.

Many thanks in anticipation

Phil

My guess is it could be made using a scatter brush.  The brush elements could be an assortment of rough shapes.  Also, a group of layers could also be used to create transparency for each colored layer.

Another way you could make it would be to

  1. Make a rectangle
  2. With it selected, go to Effect >SVG Filters > Woodgrain
  3. If you want it to be vectors instead a of a raster effect go to Object > Expand Appearance, otherwise skip to step 6
  4. Image Trace - 6 colors preset (use the panel if you want to select Ignore White or select it afterward and delete it)
  5. Expand
  6. Select it all and in the Transparency Panel or Properties Panel change Opacity to 30
  7. Add another rectangle of the same size and adjust its color (and possibly opacity and blend mode to get the color you want)
