Help with puzzle pieces

Hi there! I am creating a different type of puzzle in which each piece has a different picture or affirmation. My problem is that I don't know how to make each puzzle piece its own entity. Please Help! Thank you so much!

Do you have the puzzle pieces already drawn but can't figure how to put each picture or affirmation inside the pieces? If that is the case then as long as each piece is a closed path you can use its shape to create a clipping mask which will appear to trim the picture to the contour of that piece. Did you draw the puzzle pieces with intersecting lines that aren’t enclosed shapes? If so you can use the shape builder tool to create shapes where the lines intersect.
