Help with understanding geometricBounds and setEntirePath

I understand how indesign works to measure objects from the zero point. I am totally lost when it comes to illustrator. I am trying to make lines based on placed objects geometricBounds but I am returning some wierd numbers. First off everything comes back in what I can only assume is millimeters. Then the numbers don't match anything about the coordinates of points or box dimensions. I don't know the increment of the value I am returning but it does not match the interface. Can anyone please help explain this?

The measurement unit is always in points.

But the values should definitely reflect the bounding box coordinates.. so perhaps check your rulerOrigin or pageOrigin of the document to see if there's any difference between that and what you see in the UI.

Also do you have a screenshot of the art?

That helps a lot I thought it was the same value as what was in the document. In InDesign it returns what the value based on what measurement is assigned.
