Hex colour code

Community Beginner ,
Sep 06, 2018 Sep 06, 2018

Hi!

I am working in Illustrator CC and after selecting my object, I am in the color picker window, trying to type in a hex code to get a specific color, and when I type it in and click ok, nothing changes!!  The item I'm trying to change the color of stays the exact same, as if I didn't do anything!

I used to be able to use this method to change colors in Illustrator CS6....

Help!  🙂

Rebecca

I have discovered my silly mistake.... apparently the value box was letting me type one more letter or number than it requires (ie. instead of 6 "F's" for "white" it was inputting 7, which isn't a valid colour value so it kept reverting back to whatever existing colour I had)....

so it's working now! lol

Thanks for all the help/suggestions 🙂

What is your document color mode, RGB or CMYK?

If it is CMYK than it is useless to specify colors as hex values.

I was working in CMYK, but I also tried it using an RGB document, and it still won't let me type in to change the value..

HEX values are just another way of representing RGB values.

If they don't work in an RGB document there is something wrong.

Maybe reset your preferences?

do you know of a specific preference setting that might be stopping me from being able to type in a hex value?

Are you sure that the object really just has a fiil applied and not a pattern?

Is there just one fill in the appearance panel?

yes, it's just a colour, not a pattern 🙂

....but even something as simple as selecting my coloured object, then opening the color picker dialog box, and typing in 0000000 for black... it won't let me do it... I click ok, and nothing changes..

Have you already restarted the computer?

Does it work when you use the color panel?

I restarted my computer, and opened a new RGB file, where I have a few basic shapes... even in the color panel it won't let me input my own color values (I can type in the values, but hitting enter/saying ok does nothing.. the color in my object does not change)..    For whatever reason, since switching from CS6 to CC, I haven't been able to input my own values..sample 2 for ai forum.jpg
