High Res vector art saved down to CS5 from CC becomes low res art?

We have run into an issue where our high resolution vector files, when saved down to CS5 are losing all their resolution. Actually, they are no longer a vector file. Thankfully we have the original files, otherwise the vectors are gone. Our production team has had no problems till just recently. I would say this was just an isolated issue but several other artist have had the same issue. We are using Illustrator CC, and our production staff use CS5. I hope I have supplied enough info and have explained the problem clearly. We have found a work around the seems to work for now, That is to  save it as a PDF and clearly mark it for production. Has anyone else seen this?

Update; CS6 has no problem. Anything lower and it converts vectors to low resolution rasters.

Vector artwork doesn't have a resolution.

Please tell us the details:

- what is in the files? What kind of artwork?

- any effects used? Transparency?

What happens when downsaving (especially to CS5):

Effects and functions that the older version doesn't support, gets expanded. This is severy for everything where Gaussian blur is concerned, such as drop shadows, because those get exapnded to pixels.

But in order to understand what's happening to your files and how to avoid it: please show something and post the details.

What I meant to say is the resulting file is no longer a vector. As for all the effects being used, I understand that some of these will not be supported in earlier versions. Generally we have not had any issues with this till recently. The problem is not that the files have been flattened, it's that the resulting file is low resolution. I will try to give an example

Low resolution happens because effects get expanded.

And since this only happens when saving to CS5, but not when saving to CS6, this points to Gaussian blur.

Gaussian blur is included in drop shadow, blur and glow.

Also since this happens to the complete artwork it looks like you have grouped everything and then applied some Gaussian blur related effect to the group.

You will need to analyze the layers panel and the appearance panel (or post screenshots, please select objects for that and show layers opened, so the hierarchy can be seen.

I suppose your colleagues need vector files for further editing? In that case you would actually need to delete all Gaussian blur related effects from the objects. Those need to be applied in version CS5. Otherwise it won't work to downsave.

Or would a higher resolution be sufficient? In that case go to Effect > Document raster effects settings and input a higher resolution.

I will try this and see if that helps. The problem just started with the new update so my suspicion is that something is broke on Adobe's end. We have been using CC since the introduction and had no issues till now.

Most probably nothing broke.

This is a typical situation.

Do you know how to operate the layers and appearance panel?

You need to watch out for the meatball in the layers panel.

Well, there may be something different, but that doesn't necessarily constitute "broke."

Of everything mentioned, the only thing I see clearly broken is this:

We are using Illustrator CC, and our production staff use CS5.

You may continue to encounter problems until that changes.

It's the type of machines we use. They are not able to accept anything newer than CS5. Or that's what I was told. I thank everyone for trying to help.

Have you checked that?
