How can I adjust the brightness and contrast of an object that is part of a vector?

I have an edited (text & symbol color, brightness, contrast, etc) file, LOGO.tif, that was generated from it's original file, LOGO.eps. Now I'm trying to edit the EPS to match the TIFF. I got as far as extracting the color of the text in the TIFF file and applying it to the text in the EPS file. My problem is, I can't change the brightness and contrast of the symbol in the logo. Is there a way to adjust the brightness and contrast of an object that's part of a vector? I need to make the symbol darker and I've tried Edit>Edit Colors>Saturate and setting the intensity at 100 but it won't seem to darken. And I can't really spend any extra money on plug-ins like Phantasm cs. Please help.

Additional info:     The LOGO.tif file was created by someone a few years back. I'm assuming that they edited the TIFF after they created it from the LOGO.eps file.

How did you extract the colour of the text?

Have you access to Photoshop?

Thank you for the quick response. I opened both the TIFF and the EPS in Illustrator. I used the Eyedropper tool to get the CMYK values of the color of the text part in the TIFF, then I went back to the EPS and selected the text and input the CMYK values in the color tab. I know it's not precise, but it's close enough. Could I have done this better?

Yes, I have access to Photoshop but I haven't tried using it with vector files. I am really new to graphic design and I need all the help I can get. Thank you!

You can get more accurate colour values in Photoshop. More specifically, the Eyedropper in Illy picks up the screen rendering (RGB) rather than the actual (CMYK or RGB) colour of the pixel in question. In Photoshop you can get the actual colour (sample with Eyedropper set to 1 pixel).

Especially in connexion with a logo, I believe it is best to recreate (as accurately as possible) the colours within the vector artwork itself, in other words redo what has probably been made in Photoshop or something.

Without seeing what you're actually talking about, nobody will be able to help you.

You'd be best off if you just buy Phantasm and adjust the contrast.

The alternative would be to select every single object and adjust its color. Edit > Edit colors > Recolor art might or might not help you.

I may be as simple as adding an transparent overlay with a few gradients.

It may be incredibly complex and be best done in photoshop.

without seeing it it is very hard to help more.

even a clipped sample may help.
