How can i fix this gradient tool issue

whenever i try to fill the drawing in with the gradient tool that happens. this has probably already been answered but idk what its called and i don't feel like looking thru every post about gradients sry and if u answer thx in advance

Fionna,

As I (mis)understand it, you may be happier (and have more control of your artwork) if you use one full (preferably closed) path for each object you wish to fill with a gradient, rather than multiple separate (small open) paths, each of which will have its own fill until you force them into one (maybe shape builder) shape in some way which may be different from the way you wish.

Here is a tutorial: How to Use the Live Paint Feature - Illustrator CC - YouTube

After all objects were merged, you can draw your gradient with ease.

In the Help section search for the Live paint tool. Select all and use the live paint tool for filling your shapes.
