How do I align here? (see photo)

So how do I make it so those opposite edges align/come together? The right of one box, to the left of the other.

I can't for the life of me figure it out.

Use Distribute Horizontal Spacing, with the gap set to 0.

If you want the two lines to sit exactly on top of each other, make sure that Use Preview Bounds is Unchecked in your Illustrator preferences.
