How do I continue making a path without losing the other bezier handle?

Lets say I left an open path and want to continue editing it later. The first thing should do is click the last point and a "/" symbol appears when I hover over it. However, the other bezier handle disappears and get a sharp corner. How do I continue drawing the path without losing the smooth curve like in photoshop?

It won't work like in Photoshop (or InDesign).

You can get a similar behaviour by continuing the path with the Curvature tool instead of the Pen tool. But it's still different.

Jason,

You can, Smart Guides being your friends, select the Pen Tool and:

1) Click and Hold beside the end Anchor Point, then press the Spacebar and still ClickHolding Drag the new Anchor Point to snap to the end one and let go;

2) Join the Anchor Points from 1) into one; you can (deselect and) ClickDrag over the Anchor Points with the (Direct) Selection Tool;

3) Continue the path by simply Clicking the joined end Anchor Point with the Pen Tool as you wished to do in the first place.

Click-and-drag and match the existing curve.

Is there any way to just click it? like in photoshop?

When the "/" symbol appears, click and drag.  A handle is created.
