How do I cut an opening into a border?

I have a border which is a 1pt black rounded rectangle (stroke, no fill). I'd like to cut an opening into the top crossbar. This screen shot shows what I want; I accomplished it using white bars, which is obviously unsatisfactory. Could someone tell me how to alter the path?

You could use the scissors tool and just cut. You could also mask it in case you want to change your mind later.

Hi!

You can use the scissors tool to do that.

First, you select the shape. Second, the scissors tool. Then, cut the stroke by clicking on the place you want the cut.

When you cut the two edges, select the part you have cut in the  middle and delete.

So that's set.scissors tool.PNG

I've insert the photo  of the scissors tool. you can also press (c) to assess the tool.

Thanks to you both, that worked great. I snipped the segment and then made it no stroke so that I can restore it later if I change my mind.
