Question

How do I cut out background so that my image become transparent?

The picture below is a vectorized picture. I want to cut out/delete all the light grey colour. I managed to cut out everything around the picture using clipping mask, but that's all. How do I do this the easiest way? I'm not very used to working with Illustrator. I then want to save the picture as PNG.

Thanks for any help!

Should it be semi-transparent or just knock out?

If you want it semi-transparent, select all the grey elements and group them. Then select the blue shape in addition and click on "Make Mask" in the transparency panel. Uncheck "Clip"

If you want to knock it out: Make a compound path of all the grey shapes and the blue shapes. If it doesn't show, open the attributes pabel, Select show options from its menu and then check the fill rule "Even odd"
