How do I select only what's inside the markee using E key?

Recenlty I launched Illustrator 28.3 and a movie played showing how you can draw a markee while holding down the E key on the keyboard to select only those objects that are entirely within the selection markee.

I've tried that several times and can't get it to work and I've tried searching in help and on the Illustrator Community and can't find any instructions.

Any advice on how to find a tutorial about this is appreciated.

Bellow is the design I'm working with. I'd like to be able to draw a Markee around the red shape and have it select only that shape and not the other lines connected to the shape, but that might be expecting too much.

If the instructions stated to hold down the 'E' key, they were incorrect. The key is a toggle, not a modifier.

Click and drag a marquee, then tap the 'E' key once to toggle enclosed selection.
