in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/
p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

@mecdos Double click on the 'Character Style' .
• Window - Type - Character Style.
• A Character Style panel will open.
• Locate the 'Character Style' that you want to change.
• Double-click on the 'Character Style'
• Make your changes

thanks.
I know how to edit the styles. but once you set a setting there is no way to unset it. I want to set a setting back to ignore or blank or ignore.
like say i set character size to 10. i want to remove that setting. not set it to 9 or any other size. i want it blank.

What do you mean by "blank"?
Removing the character style altogether? Or something else?
You could share a sample Illustrator file with some further instructions.

blank or null or not set, I don't know ther right terminology. meaning it won't override the paragraph style settings.
like what the "Reset Panel" does but just to one field.

Can you show something (before and after)?
Or a sample Illustrator file?

please send us an example. It isn't easy to understand.
Do you want to override the style of the entire document?
In Illustrator, if you do not apply, it will not be there!
