How do i view only selected layer?

Explorer ,
Jan 23, 2022 Jan 23, 2022

I have tried to google this but not getting any results.

In photoshop if you click the eyeball of one the layers using option you can only view that selected layer, is there something similar in illustrator?

It would be super handy when you are in the outline mode as sometimes i need to hone in on one particular area.

Please help!

Thanks

Peter's advice is right, but it only works with real layers or sublayers (technically speaking).

My guess is that you are actually dealing with single objects inside a layer, a sublayer or a group. In that case Option/Alt clicking on the eye icon won't hide all other objects in that container.

Yes, Opt+click on a layer's eyeball icon hides all other layers (or shows them if they are hidden). Cmd+click on the eyeball icon puts the layer into Outline mode (or Preview mode if already in Outline).

If you are continually holding down opton while clicking on the eyeball that should work to solo the layer. Works that way in all Adobe apps.

If not your OS & Illustrator & hardware may not be meeting the system requirements

You may check if Illustrator's Isolation Mode could be an alternative way.

You can isolate single objects (unfortunately not multiple selected single objects) and as long as they are isolated they are the only objects that can be selected and edited.

To expand on Kurt's observation about "real layers," it is unfortunate that, back in the Paleozoic, the decision was made to call it the Layers panel, giving rise to the popular, but mistaken, impression that anything that appears in it is a layer. An impediment to understanding and discussion, But Hey! — with a little team effort, we can get through almost anything! And thanks, Kurt.
