How do you change text in Illustrator for a pre made flyer to match font etc?

Hello,

I am wanitng to find out how to change and add text to already designed flyers etc in Illustrator?

For example, if  a client asked to amend their text or add new text and sent a file, how would I make the nex text match the old one and be seamless in font type, size, text colour, blend naturally etc?

How do i find out the originals font type etc?

Also, when i try using the text button it looks "seperate" from their old wrting if that makes sense but if i want to change a letetr or word it does not look natural?

Also i dont understand why i am unable to edit it. For example if i try to erase the text nothing happens?

Thanks for your help.

Jenny,

"It has big crosses over the page"

Have you opened the AI document, or placed it?

If the latter, what happens if you open it?

And the Photoshop wish seems rather weird.

I have opened it.

When i asked them to clarify why they wanted the edit to take place in Photoshop rather than Illustrator I didn't receive any more communation so i thought there is something "obvious|" that i am not understanding?

Is it normal to not be able to delete the text?

This is how editing text works:

Is it text or has it been converted to paths?

Thansk Monika but this is more a file that i need to edit and is not text making from scratch.

I am not sure what paths means?

It is visible text writing i.e. for a business seminar. Also has some images.

Can you post a screenshot? Select everything and make sure to show the layers panel with layer contents visible.

Was the original design made in Illustrator? If so just open it and use the type tool to see what font was used. Then, locate and buy the font if needed and continue the design.  Or are you trying to edit an existing file NOT made in Illustrator? Basically, what do you have?

HI Testsreenname,

I am not sure as it is not my file.

It was sent to me in two formats, one being ai file and the other being pdf file but tthe person asked for them to be edited in photoshop??

If I click the type tool nothing happens. I can't seem to edit the file. It has big crosses over the page and when i try to edit it with text the text is just "new" text that is seperated from their text (if that makes sense) ansd i cant seem to erase their text as needed etc.

Does this still mean the file is locked?
