How do you do page numbers in Illustrator

I am creating a book in Illustrator. I know not the most ideal place to create it. It is mostly graphic in nature with very few words, but I want to create a table of content & page numbers. I have no idea how to use script. I am self-taught so there are many things I don't know how to do.

As there are very few words, you could mimic the Illy doc in ID - all you need is the text on the correct pages, it doesn't need any formatting other than usual TOC calls.

Alternatively export your illy doc to pdf and place in ID with multi-page pdf import script.

Illustrator does not have a automatic page numbering feature. InDesign does. However, this post may be of help to you.
