I have about 12 layers in Ai - a logo with a component that 'moves' using animation. How do I import into Photoshop and 'tween' it, then import into After effects?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How do I take a layered Ai file into Photoshop, and maintain layers to make 'frames'?
Maybe you want to tell us what exactly does not work with the PSD export.

While animating components in AE looks awesome, I don't have the same precision that I do in Ai... is there a way to export Ai layers into Photoshop or AE?
Thx

To Photoshop, you just export a PSD file with full editability. depending on your artwork ,effects etc. it might or might not work.
To AE, you import your AI file.
Can we perhaps see what exactly you want to do?

Here is an example of what I have in Ai artwork-wise....

So there will be 3D animation? It won't look realistic when you tween this in Photoshop.
But you can do it in After Effects. You can turn shapes into 3D layers there and animate them.
Use 3D layers in After Effects
You'd maybe want to post in the After Effects forum, because they can point you to tutorials and trainings that teach you how to do it step by step. After Effects
We can ask someone to move this thread over there.

Thanks Monika and Jonnathan.
While I realize the AE 3D thing is super cool, I want to just do a simple transition... I remember there being a way to place layers of Ai into PS, then tween the image sequence (I just forget how to do it)... and then I was just gonna pop that into AE and maybe do more effects later...

It looks like you are just going to have them appear one after the other. you can do that in photoshop no problem. you wan to export a .mp4 or gif?

Wow... maybe I'm a dum dum, but I'm still not understanding how to get Ai layers into Photoshop....
Once I'm in Photoshop (or AE), I think I could figure the rest out....

I guess where I was failing was the Export PSD - I thought I could export as RGB, but since logo was CMYK it messed up.
Also some computer/network issues
Thanks for your help Monika and Jonathan!

why don't you bring your components as individual smart objects. they are independent in photoshop to play with the timeline, and you can open them in illustrator if needed.

Sounds good - but how do you do that?
On another note, I imported the Ai file into AE using dialog below, but how do I accurately animate the layers (and tween between for smoothness)? Do I have to change each AE layer opacity/sequence wise manually?

ok wait. you are mixing things.lol
you can select group items in illustrator and paste them to your photoshop document. you will get a dialog box and select "smart object". now you have a smart object in your photoshop layer, you can now double click that layer to see that group object in illustrator and you can edit , save, close and go back to photoshop and see your document updated on the fly.
I don't work in after effects so i don't know the answer to your second question. i animate from illustrator to photoshop and i like to bring in my smart art to photoshop and animate from there.

Can you please show your artwork and what eactly you want to animate?
I also don't understand that argument of precision, because After Effects allows precise positioning.
