Hey everyone! I've been scouring the Internet for the past hour, trying to find a sollution without luck.
I want this silver-white gradient to be applied across every line of text in this picture without outlining/expanding the text. I've managed to do what I want by separating the words and applying the gradient separately, but I'm wondering if there's an option somewhere to preserve the text object? Thanks in advance!

Select the text object. In the Appearance panel menu, choose Add new Fill. Then select the gradient that you want.

Hi. I did what you said, but it's still the same. Adding another fill just overrode the fill option below. Sending a screenshot:

I don't fully understand what you want to achieve.
If the gradient isn't going in the direction that you want, you can use the gradient tool to drag across the text while the fill is active.

Like you mentioned, it does not work for a multiline textobject (area type).
You need to create separate text objects for every line (point text).
