How to change the highlight color of selected shapes?

I’m working on abutted shapes which are all more or less have blue fill color. The paths of the selected shapes is/are highlighted in blue by default. My problem is that if I select a shape it’s difficult to distinguish the selected shape from the other non-selected (blue) shapes surrounding the selected shape. I’m quite new to Illustrator, I would have expected that there is a possibility to change the highlight color  (Edit – Preferences ?) but I can’t find it. I had a look into the forum but I couldn’t find a post answering my post. Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Hi Monika,

Thanks a lot for your reply! I'm not sure but I think you're speaking about how to change the fill color of the selected shape.

My problem is the highlite color of the paths of the shape ('Direct Selection Tool') or the sourounding rectangle ('Selection Tool') which changes to blue (default) when I select the shape.  I want to change that highlite color (if possible? ) Sorry I've missed something!
