How to connect a path to another path, where they intersect?

I have the attached file, I want to make this look like a dashed line, the way the black and white photo is. I want make the green curve end and join with each of the red lines.

 

I made the lines red and green just so it would be clear to explain, I dont care what color it all ends up.

 

How do I achieve this?

    instead of red lines, make shapes as shown. select all red shapes and combine (ctrl + 8). With red shapes combined and above green shape, select all and subtract using pathfinder. (see pathfinder window selection on right of screen).

    You cannot join the red with the green lines. It's impossible.

    If you draw it, you can join paths by expanding and using pathfinder to merge to a single compound path. Therefore it is not impossible.

    If you have drawn the lines yourself,  then select all the lines and go to the menu at the top - Object>Expand and select to expand the outline and fill (you may have to do this step twice.)


    Once you have expanded the lines go to the menu at the top Window>Pathfinder and select to "Unite" under shape mode, this will link all the lines into one image. 


    From here, use your direct selection to remove the lines you don't need to create the desired effect. 
    It may take some time/tweaking - but you should be able to create the design you are going for. 
    (Although I'm certain there will be an easier way using image trace).

    I appreciate you making this but unfortunately it is not what I want :~(

     

    I often have to trace images and connect a path to another path, where they intersect. So I need a solution for that in general rather than just how to draw this dashed line.

    You cannot connect paths in the shape of a y (with 3 path segments)
