How to cut lines into text?

Hi,

I have a text logo, which has white lines across the text. Now I need to have the lines to be cut out of the font/text, so that the lines are transparent like this screen example:

How can I achieve the cut out and transparent lines?

Many ways, but just the first to come to mind:

1. Group the lines only.

2. Select the text and the group of lines.

3. In the transparency panel, click 'Make Mask'

4. Untick 'Clip' and tick 'Invert mask'.

The previous method seems not to work anymore, since I need to have the lines transparent and cutted out of the text for a t-shirt print.

Is there any other possibility to cut out the lines of the font?
