I have a pattern that has come from a 'grungey' logo that had many nodes and distressed 'dirt' on it.
Since making the pattern and simplifying the paths I am left with thousands of tiny objects (artefacts of old 'dirt' section that have been eaten away at by the Path / Simplify process).
is there any easy way for me to make Illustrator find and remove all these tiny items.
They are riddled throughout objects that I still need to keep, of which are all identical colours, on the same layer.

Illustrator has the Select > Object > Stray Points command which will select all objects that have only one anchor point.
If the artifacts consist of more than one anchor point, obviously that won't help and the job becomes more tedius. You might like using the Eraser tool. The objects do not need to be selected to use the Eraser.

There are scripts that can select objects based on their size. This is one example: https://thomask.sdf.org/blog/2018/12/03/selecting-objects-same-size-adobe-illustrator.html
