How to drag to select multiple anchor points instead of selecting them individually?

This must be answered elsewhere but cannot find it for the life of me. Thank you in advance.

Doesn't the Direct Selection tool work for you?

Only if I start from outide the canvas. Otherwise, the entire object moves.

Check if using the Lasso tool helps.

Or try turning on the "Object Selection by Path Only" option in the application preferences.
