How to get clean non-pixelated Halftone Pattern?

Hi,

Is there any way to clean up Illustrator's black and white Halftone Pattern? I tried expanding as well as changing the Document Raster Effect Settings, but I still get this pixelated look.

I should add that I like the way that the effect distorts the dots, so that's not the issue; it's merely the low-resolution appearence.

(I don't want to use a greyscale version of the Color Halftone effect, neither in Illustrator nor Photoshope, as I don't like the round dots.

I looked into the Phantasm plugin, but it just seems to provide a vector version of the 'perfect' Color Halftone dots, as opposed to the distorted effect mentioned above...)

You can open Effects > Document raster effetcs settings and input a higher resolution, but that's it.

Thank you very much!

Yes, I did try that but it doesn't make any difference -- which is actually a bit weird.

However, I just Expanded Appearence and then Image Traced, and that did a really nice job cleaning up.

I would actually have asked you if there were a way to edit those Image Trace results, but fortunately I tried Google first and found one of your articles 🙂 which is very helpful! So, now I know how to do that!

You can try to increase the resolution of the end result by putting a Rasterize Effect (with a high resolution) before the Halftone Pattern effect.

But the Photoshop conversion to bitmap will also give you the halftone dots you are after.
