How to get Khmer font to work in Illustrator?

I have an English brochure I need to translate to Khmer and I can't get the Khmer font to work in any of my Adobe software. I'm running on OS Catalina 10.15.4 with all the latest software. My client gave me the file already translated as an Acrobat file but when I copy and paste it into Illustrator it changes the letters. Advice, please???
