How to get rid of white that appears when using Illustrator Effects filters

New Here ,

Hello. To add a rough edge and texture to my gold-hued outlined type in Adobe Illustrator 6, I applied Effects filters (specifically from the Brush Strokes menu). The effect is great except for the white that appears around the distressed edge. How do I get rid of that? Thanks!

Go to Effects > Document raster effects settings and try the transparency option.

It's already set on that. Thanks for trying!

Please show us the base ofbect and then exactly what you applied to it. There are brushes and effects? Please show the object, and the object with appearance panel.

I can see the white pixels when one of the Brush Strokes effects from the Effect Gallery is used.

Since it is a pixel effect, you may want to place/paste your Illustrator object in Photoshop, apply the effect there and place the ,psd into Illustrator.

That's exactly what I ended up doing. I was able to remove the white in Photoshop, take it back to Illustrator, do an image trace and remove the box around it. However, it did change the look somewhat. Thanks!

Good to hear that. If you don't mind the changed look after tracing, you are better off with the scalable vector result.

But the Photoshop workaround may  not work with some of the Gallery Effects (for some reason unkown to me).

I played a little with the Brush Strokes effects in Photoshop. They only seem to work on layers without transparency. I think you are out of luck with these effects

Sometimes changing the transparency works. Darken or multiply often fixes it but it also really depends on the background you are using. Pretty frustrating, unfortunately.

This worked for me:

1- apply effect (for me brush strokes/ spatter to get a rough edge.

2- Object menu- expand apperance

3- Image trace, click on ignore white

4- expand

5- depending on setting of image trace, you may have to reapply color
