how to handle the objects "transparent background" when editing the vector

so when i buy an illustrator vector file, like snow or rain and etc,

it always come edited specifically to black or the color they wanted.  i just wanna be able to change it to my corrent artboard needed color... 

it goes to photoshop as PNG eventually..

image 2 - i just did a clipping mask realese so u can see the layers and tell me how its done properly...

Most come with Black for a reason... As the objects are assigned a transparency effect of Screen, the outer edges of the objects need to be assigned a color darker than anything you are placing it against, hence Black. (And you best be working in RGB mode, and the "Black" in the graphic needs to specified as 0R 0G 0B... I say this because some bad stock art comes with a 100K Black or 100Grey on these blends, which doesn't work properly.). The "Screen" effect is why it shows up when there's nothing behind it, like on your areas outide your rectangle, since theres "nothing" for it to effect, so it appears Black.
You should be able to put ANY color behind the graphic (even White) and it will behave the way you want.

These cannot be transferred to Photoshop as transparent layers. You need to exchange the background in Illustrator.
