How to make a screen effect in illustrator

I have these 2 objects.

The question is how to make this abstract colourful object to be a shape of circle like using intersect in pathfinder. However, the abstract object is too complicated to be done by pathfinder. This can also be done by the "screen" effect in Photoshop but I would like to know how to do this in Illustrator.
