Question

how to make lower layer show through upper layer?

I would basically like to make the circles in the "a" and "o's" of this upper layer to be transparent so the black layer underneath shows through. How can I do that? Thanks!

southofmotown,

I believe you wish to (also) have counters (holes) in the same black letters so small bits at the bottom right show to give true depth; otherwise, you can just make them black.

You can create one set as brown/black (with a black stroke), punch the holes with the Pathfinder Minus front, then create a copy in the back/front, then move the copy down and to the right/up and to the left as desired.
