How to print two aligned artboards double sided?

I created two art-boards which are aligned perfectly on screen, however when I print them double sided I cannot find out how to align them (so I can trim to size).  I have tried various configurations and searched here and elsewhere for answers to no avail.  By converting it to pdf the print was nearly aligned but not quite.  I considered measuring the mis-alignment then re-aligning the artwork to compensate but there must be a better way.

I'm using Illustrator cs, artboard size is 304 x 256mm and print media is A3 so it has to be rotated for printing (which I've set in print dialogue).

How should I set this up for correct double sided?

Hi Bensox79

If you have Illustrator.. chances are you have InDesign... I would personally recommend aligning this in a new InDesign file set up exactly how you want.

You can either copy and paste or place the native Illustrator Graphics into InDesign (placing is my recommended pro tip).

I found using InDesign much closer to using Illustrator so I would say that the learning curve isn't that steep at all.

There may be ways in Illy to do this but I would argue that the by far easiest method is via InDesign.

If you still want/need to go down the Illy only route then please let me know and I will revise my answer.

Thanks for your advice EW, I will read up on placing into InDesign and give it a go.  Glad to hear it's similar to ai as I've been holding back from it until now!
