Hi all,
new user to illustrator. I've been importing map file layers into illustrator for laser cutting.
I need help with a function to remove all paths extending outside of the hexagon shape. I've been doing this manually in outline view but it's very time consuming on larger maps. Every time I try to use pathfinder functions, or crop, they simply do nto work and give me very weird results. Often I can remove all items inside the shape, but the reverse how i need it. I've tried a clipping mask but that does not want to work either. I've also tried crop with no effect.
Can someone please help? How do I easily remove the lines extending outside the hexagon? I've attached a copy of the Illustrator project file, as well as jpeg of normal and outline view

How is this supposed to look like?
Can strokes be outlined?
The AI file does not work. Can you upload it to Dropbox or the like and post a link in here?

Hi, thanks for your reply. I've uploaded the AI file, and an SVG of the completed file (I had to do it all manually) as an example.
I mostly utilise outline view because I am only interested in the paths for laser cutting.

You could try the Shape Builder tool to add and subtract to a selection:

I will have a try of this later today, I was hoping there was an easier process, like the pathfinder functions which will allow what I'm after. I would have thought it would not be too difficult to exlude all paths outside of a shape?

Here's a dropbox of the AI file, and an SVG example of what the completed file should look like (I processed this SVG manually).
