Try holding Cmd-Opt-Ctrl-Shift when restarting AI on a Mac or Alt-Crtl-Shift on a PC to reset the preferences to the factory defaults.

Ed,

Depending on the version, you may need/wish to reset more than the aiprefs file: since 10, preferences have been moved to other files/folders. The full overhaul is to Move the folder

Jacob...

You've given that suggestion many times and now, i actively look for it! But on first glance, it's easy to miss the link... Suggestion: why don't you put "Move the folder" in bold. That way it'll stand out and the link will be more obvious

Cheers,

S.

Thank you very much for the suggestion, shunith.

This is a test to see whether it works: Move the folder

It does; I will use that from now on.

Works... but keep the blue... also why not go straight to the actual page?

But whatever, it's definitely noticeable now!

Thank you SO MUCH! This is the only thing I found online that fixed my illustrator 2018 problem! I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge - deleting preferences is much more complicated than it used to be. My problem has been resolved using your steps!

I do graphic design and I cannot get my Illustrator settings back. I used to be able to size any object with my direct select too but it's not allowing me to do so any longer.  Love to understand how I can make get this back to the way it was …

Thanks.
