How to save files for previous versions in Illustrator 2020?

New Here ,

Hello,

In a very frustrating situation where a client still uses CC2019 and cannot open my CC2020 files. There seems to be no option available in CC2020 to save as previous version. Also I tried to find CC2019 to reinstall on my computer but update center sends me in a loop where 2019 is no option to install. Please help!

Like was mentioned, you can save as a legacy format CC, which lets the file be opened in 2019.

To reinstall CC2019 (you can keep multiple versions on your machine), go to the CC desktop app.

Click on the 3 dots next to the Open button for Illustrator.

Select Other Versions and install 2019 (shown as 23.1.1).

Hi Jen,

Thanks for reaching out. I agree with what Ton has mentioned above. Saving files with a CC Lagecy preset must allow you to open files in older CC versions. If you are still getting errors while opening the file, please share a small screenshot of the error message and a sample file (if possible). This will us replicate this issue at our end and help you accordingly.

Looking forward to your response!

In my copy of Illustrator 2020, when I go to Save As, and choose Adobe Illustrator (ai) as the format, the next window that opens shows Version 2020 at the top as the default, but that is a drop down that lets me choose Illustrator Legacy (CC). If I save as that, I can open the file on my home computer which is still set up as CC2019.
