How to select a particular part of object in Illustrator?

Hi Everyone,

 

 I have problem: i want to select a sleeve of a t-shirt design to insert a image. the only problem is that when i click on the sleeve the whole shirt get's select.

I tried to use the clipping mask but that does not work either.

Hi,

Use Direct Selection Tool to select a specific part.

In addition to what Charu and Shristi said, in connexion with the Direct Selection Tool it is often necessary to hold Alt/Option when selecting to get the whole path instead of only one or more segments, also known as temporarily switching to the Group Selection Tool.

Thanks for reaching out. Looks like the object is grouped. I agree with the suggestion shared by Charu. Another way is to select the desired object from the Layers panel. For more details, you may refer to these tutorials:
