How to square a corner?

I hope this is an easy fix, but I am looking for the quickest or best way to create a square corner when I have a notch. See the screen grab. The left one is relatively easy if I have Smart Guides turned on. I just have to used the direct selection tool and pull it to approximately where the corner should be and it snaps into place.   The triangle shape one doesn't work since the lines are not either horizontal or vertical.

I am looking for a simple way or an overlooked tool to do this job. MJ

Maybe the Square Up plugin can do it: https://rj-graffix.com/downloads/plugins/

m,

Whatever you wish, you can make it with the inherent tools.

The actual way rather depends on whether you wish to remove the notch and have a regular polygon or to still have a notch.

In the former case you would need to move the inner corner of the rectangle as described to end at the regular corner, and then you can delete the superfluus Anchor Points.

And the triangle would get sharp angles and longer sides, but that is easily done, as shown here with guide lines shown in red,

In the latter case it looks as if you have already made the desired change for the rectangle, and you can do something similar for the triangle with a decision of where you wish to have a right angle, or more than one, as shown here presuming the upper side is to form a right angle with the notch and maybe the the same for the other sides or to have a right inward angle in the notch, with guide lines shown in red,

Maybe it will work for you:

  1. select only the "wrong inner" anchor points
  2. remove them
  3. use the join tool to create your new perfect corners

Yes...thanks! That's a great working process.

I do most work on my Mac, but the software that can do this in seconds is on my PC.  I just drag a box over the corner with the box and it squares it. Thanks again, MJackson
