How to vectorize fine hand drawing stipling in Illustrator

Hello,

I am new to Adobe Illustrator. I currently work as a technical illustrator. Most of the time, we do things by hand and minimally edit illustrations. However, lately, there has been a need for fully vectorized drawings so that drawings can be edited digitally more extensively. I tried applying image trace, but then all fine stippling and other features disappeared. Is there any other way to process or vectorize with image trace? Adding a sample for a better idea.

Fully vectorized stipple can be very demanding for the performance of your file

Sure it will slow down, but that's the price of wanting that look as vector.

There is also nothing wrong with an high res image and Photoshop editing.

The best approach would be to start from scratch and (re)create the whole thing with Illustrator tools like the pen and (stipple) brushes. It will make editing much easier compared to image trace.

Although, when you use the advanced options in image trace (threshold), you can retain a lot of the fine dots.
