I AM BESIDE MYSELF - NUDGE TOOL NOT WORKING AS IT SHOULD

I haven't used Illustrator in a while, but I think I know it fairly well.

When I create 2 objects and I try to move one in relation to the other, I can nudge with the keyboard but only in specific increments. It makes no differend if I hold down 'shift' or not, the nudging is the same. When I use the mouse to drag the object it will only drag in steps, there is no way to do a tiny movement. When I change the keyboard increments in the 'general' settings it makes no differene. I know this used to work fine, so what has changed?

Look near the bottom of the View menu and see if Snap to Grid is activated (or one of the other snap options). If so, this could be the cause.

It frustrates me how settings like this seems to change on their own and it makes me wonder what else has changed that I don't yet know about.

Those settings do not change on their own.

The snap settings depend on the new document profile you use, which has been the case since startup files have been invented.

I have to agree with wm17959. After using the same tools for years I suddenly can't adjust keyboard increments in version 28.5 except in choppy steps, using the keyboard dragging the cursor. I disabled Snap to Point and Snapping Tolerance – made no difference. I can't finish a job now. I wish I could work in an old version. Any thoughts?
